Evaluation

For my project I wanted to create an animation that could let people reach into their childhood memories and familiarize themselves with their sibling scraps, the features of this animation were two young children often fighting about trivial things like who is not brushing their teeth when they are suppose to and who has had the TV remote for too long. I didn't really research much into what people would like in this animation because I had a pretty solid idea, but I did struggle in the first part of production, i.e, how will I start this animation, technique; Will I use Rotoscoping? will I do this free-hand?
After getting the story board drawn and the character designs set I then figured out how I would nail this project, but first I needed a title for this animation, through talking to people about this project and the matter of naming it I compiled a list of names into a Questionnaire poll asking people to vote on their favorite title for the brief, the name "Double Trouble" won, so that was the name that I had stuck with.

The timing for this project was rather late in the making by this point because no one was voting so I reached to desperate measures by sending the link to every possible person I knew and even didn't know and also included it on my blog, here people could watch both project briefs and the planning to know precisely what title they would like for this animation.

I started drawing my animation frame by frame for many many hours, often staying up all night to get as much done, once I had gotten so far into the animations, I decided that it should all be free hand. I did find some image references for back grounds,i.e, Sofa's, kitchens and living rooms.

When it came to experimenting for my animation I did not really need to do much apart from exploring different styles, in my blog, previously I experimented with doing a Photoshop sketchy sort of style but felt it would be too colorful as I wanted this animation to be limited to the few shades of Brown, the reason I wanted to do this is I wanted my animation to come across as some what "dated" but not in black and white.
I also experimented with movements both motion and style, Firstly I created a Rotoscope animation of a puppet moving around, I was very minimal with the line work and wanted it to be flickery and it proved to work well but not detailed enough for people to understand what is happening in the video if it was a story.
Secondly I experimented with another style and that was the Pop-art movement, I made a very colorful GIF of some ballet feet moving around and multiple colors happening around it I liked this but it was not right for the video I was aiming for, though pop art is a good and fashionable movement in the arts I still preferred the minimalism in my idea, finally the last experiment I did was a style inspired by the Ryan Woodward piece and this was a GIF of a man walking but he was creating some motion tracks behind him, I very much liked this idea because it was quite whimsical and I very much liked the idea of seeing movement subtly, though I didn't get the movement exactly like the artists, I am proud of what I had created on it's own and stuck by this idea.

Beginning research.

Below is the ideas of my final major project. This video expresses the inspirations behind my ideas and what I like about the ideas and designs that I have found.

Below is the second presentation that I did, this presentation is the one we are being marked on. It is not as brief as the first one because this one I have a clearer idea of what I wanted to create.

Inspirations

The following videos that have inspired my work vary in their styles from stop motion animation, to digital and traditional work.
I chose these animations because they are ones that I have liked for years prior to this project and will highly credit their efforts. I believe that all have helped me with my decisions regarding my final major project.

This video I like because it is very simplistic, though the process of making such a video is going to be very tedious. I like this video because it is very sweet I like the concept of it and I also very much like the music.
I like that it just two people in a bed, I also very much like the style that the woman is moving in because it is very fluent.. but it is very clear that she is just sleeping, as if she is the being a puppet but things like her head and hands are too tedious to control so they still tend to move freely.
I very much like the fact that colour in this video is obviously been controlled; it's not too cluttered and has been kept to more neutral colours like Beige, white, browns and different shades of black.

This video is one of the main contributions to the style that I very much like. I really like traditional animations because they are very deep and by that I mean that they are very subtle but things that involve emotion are some what hight lighted by thicker line work, I very much like simplicity because it is subtle in its major details. I like that it proves that "Less is more". I find that this video is very simple because there is literally three colours and they are all very neutral, I'm actually take quite a liking to videos of such colours and simplicity. And to be honest with this video, no more colours are really needed, there is a background, Person A and person B, and they are all highlighted well. I like this video because of the art style that it portrays, It is very much like drafted sketches, but it is very fluent and the shading is very minimal.
I especially like the way that the movement is portrayed, the artist exaggerates movement by stretching reality, he makeds fast movement into a solid image and he also makes it look magical by adding wisps of movement like a lit flame does.

This video is very inspirational, I think that the story line in this video is very lovable and sweet in it's own strange way. I find that the story line and the use of colour and style is what makes this video so successful.
The story line is mainly about love and redemption, I think that it is very lovable because the characters are young and show innocence, even the bad guy in this video is a cute little bunny rabbit with a 'unicorn' horn. I also like this because of the style of the characters I think that they are really cute and that also reinforces the story line. I like the way that emotion is portrayed in this too, with the colour of their faces and the attention brought to the little boy's ears, like when he shows his affected for 'little red riding hood' his face turns red and when he upsets the girl (riding hood), his ears floop down like a cats does when it is intimidated. I also very much like that this is another take on the classic story of "Little Red Riding Hood".
It's very evident that in this video the creators paid a LOT of attention to the colour, they have names the video "Red" and the entire video is in either red, white or other such colours that are tinted red, I've also noticed colours like black have been very minimal, I think that this is an effective way to keep the innocence of this video alive; when the bad guy turns evil there it is shown by his face slightly shading to black, I find that this is why Black has been kept very subtle in this video because black shows darkness and a sense of evil.

Though this is just a music video with no real story to it I like this very much because it is very surreal. I like how it explores a lot of different styles involved in animation. I also like the way it repeats every small detail over and over so that you can actually see this and get a good eye of what it is you are seeing having to think about it.
I really like how the movement goes with the beats of the music too.
I noticed that it is rather simple, just a white back ground with a lot of line drawings I think that this is effective in high lighting what the focus of the attention is, that being the pieces of ballet dancer.
I really like the montage of different movement and the simplicity of the skirt movement in part of the video, it is just a simple line drawing but it is very clear in what it actually is.
I think this video is not the best out of the ones I have researched, but I do count this as an influence to my ideas.

This is a fast paced action packed video about some of the cons and pros about Love. I like this and feel it's fast pace nature is the main inspiration to my piece.
